Bhutan Bird Festival is an annual event celebrated every year from 11th November to November to 13th November in south-central district of Zhemgang, coinciding with Birth Anniversary (11th November) of Bhutan’s fourth King.
Held at Tingtibi, which is a major birding hotspot in the country, The Bird Festival is a signature event to promote community based eco-tourism with objectives to:
• Celebrate birth anniversary of Fourth King Jigme Singye Wangchuck and pay tribute to His Majesty’s visionary leadership towards conservation in Bhutan.
• Promote Community-based eco-tourism in Zhemgang through signature events like river journey, bird watching, cycling, safari, cultural performances, hiking trails etc.
• The festival also aims to provide new economic avenues for local businessmen of Zhemgang region through various event-based activities and showcase, sale of local products during the three-day event.
The festival consists of variety of enthralling events split into pre-festival, main events and post-festival programs.
The pre-festival event generally includes:
• Bird-athon
• Art and Literally competition
• Photo Framing
The events in main festivals usually are:
• Capture Fishery
• Cyclothon
• Food stalls
• White water rafting
• Cultural Extravaganza
• Indigenous sports
• Bird watching
While the post festival event includes:
• Three-day trip to Duengmang Tshachu (hot spring)
• Overnight trip to Buli
• Photography trip to Shingkhar and Bjoka
